Force Balance Platform
back to all projects
Developed as a final project for the Sensors for Interactive Environments class taught by Joseph Paradiso at the MIT Media Lab in the Spring of 2010, a Force Balance Platform is a device made from 4 Force Sensitive Resistors each placed at one corner of a board, when the signals from these four sensors are consolidated using the simple formula below, the position of an item placed on the board can be determined. To demonstrate this effect, I piped the sensor output through a projected Processing sketch that illuminated items placed on the board with a spotlight in one mode and by simulating breaking the water's surface in the other.
